The Charlemagne Tower Collection of American colonial laws: privately printed for the Historical Society of Pennsylvania, 298p., Philadelphia,
Printed by J.B. Lippincott, 1890. (The volume is a bibliography of the collection of publications of colonial law donated to the Society by the widow of
Charlemagne Tower, a successful attorney in Pennsylvania. There is a brief biography beginning on p.7. The work itself consists of transcribed title
pages of the the volumes presented to the Society. These are organized alphabetically by jurisdiction. Although the vast majority deal with the thirteen
originally U.S. colonies, many of England’s other colnial posessions in North America and the Caribbean (e.g., Quebec and St. Christopher). Among the
oldest of the publications, one finds the 1641 London edition of the Laws of New England. Although some publication do run into the 19th century,
the vast majority of the coverage falls off at 1800. The most heavily covered jurisdiction in the collection is Massachusetts whose entries run from pp.
62-158.)
