Sessional papers of the __ Legislative Assembly of the Province of Saskatchewan: n.a., 1900-, Winnipeg, var. GovPr, 1900-. (The territory now comprising Saskatchewan fell into the westernmost reaches of the initial grant to the Hudson’s Bay Company, due to the fact that the waters of the Saskatchewan River eventually flow into Hudson Bay via Lake Winnipeg and the Nelson River. During the Company era, the only industry was fur trading. After Manitoba was created in 1870, and the North-West Territories were organized in 1776, attention focused on those parts of the former Hudson Bay Territories deemed most suitable for colonization, the so-called “fertile belt,” lying north of the Canada/U.S. border. In 1882 the Dominion government carved out of the southern corner of the NWT four districts: the “provisional provinces” of Assiniboia (95,000 sq. mi.), Saskatchewan (114,000 sq. mi.), Alberta, and Athabasca. In 1905 Assiniboia and Saskatchewan, with slightly modified boundaries, were united into the new Canadian Province of Saskatchewan. The capital was located at Regina. Upon incorporation as a province, Saskatchewan was granted a provincial constitution and responsible government, under a Lieutenant-Governor, a cabinet of four ministers, and a unicameral, fully elective, Legislative Assembly. The LLMC copy of these sessional papers currently contains the following years: 1916-1931 with gaps. The loan or gift of books to aid in filling those gaps and in extending the run further backward and forward in time would be earnestly appreciated.)
