Code Civil du Bas Canada—Civil Code of Lower Canada: n.a., (19)+t.p.+747p, Ottawa, Malcolm Cameron, Queen’s Pr., 1866. (English/French on opposing
pages. Chap. II of the Consolidated Statutes for Lower Canada mandates this first ever codification of the Civil Code of that part of the Province of
Canada. The reports of the Commissioners, {available elsewhere on this site, see reports 1-7 & 9}, received final legislative sanction with 29 Vict. 41,
1865, and the new Civil Code was put into effect by gubernatorial proclamation effective 26 May 1866. In the print copy of this book the authorizing
documents are reprinted in the 19 pages preceding the title page. To avoid confusion on-line, during scanning the title page was moved to the front of
those images.)
