Journals of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Manitoba: n.a., 1871-, Winnipeg, GovPr, 1871-. (Manitoba was admitted into the Canadian federation as Canada’s fifth province on 15 July 1870. Doubts having arisen as to the validity of certain portions of the Dominion action, the Manitoba Act was reconfirmed by imperial legislation in 1871. The legislature is unicameral, and its first session was in 1871. In the first several years, the parliament appears to have been known interchangeably as “Legislative Assembly” and “Legislative Council,” with both names appearing on various title pages. Between 1871-1889 both the session laws and the journals were published in separate English and French versions. Thereafter, for many years both titles were published only in English. A dual-language version in English and French for both titles, with French text on inverted pages, began with the 1985/57 session. The LLMC copy of the English-language volumes currently contains only the following years: 1884, 1886-1928, 1937/38-40, 1943-48, & 1954. Assistance in finding gaps volumes for scanning purposes is earnestly solicited. For another copy of the Journals of the Legislative Council, see LLMC 45924)
