Description and Holding Information
1791 - 1818, Docs re. Constitutional History of Canada, Doughty/M, 1914.
Documents relating to the constitutional history of Canada, 1781-1818: Sel. & ed. with notes by Arthur G. Doughty & Duncan A. McArthur, xiii+576p,
pr. by order of Parliament, Ottawa, C.H. Parmelee, King’s Pr., 1914. (t.p. also carries the legends: Public Archives, Sessional Paper No. 29c. This
publication is something of a mishmash. The t.p. reads as given above. However, a second sort of title page, appearing at Roman numeral p.1 and expanded
on p.3, lists the coverage as being 1791-1822, and also designates this document as being “Sessional Paper No. 18 for 1913. Regardless of both
pronouncements, the actual book contains documents up through 1819, and also, although they don’t appear in the Table of Contents, some for 1914. According to
the pref., the original plan for this series was as follows: A first volume, covering 1759-1791, available elsewhere on this site, was published in
both Fr. & Eng. Editions in 1907. This second book was intended to cover 1791-1818. A third volume, then “in preparation” was expected to cover
1819-1841. This latter title, as finally realized, actually covered 1819-1828 and is available elsewhere on this site.)
