The statutes at large; Being a collection of all the laws of Virginia, from the first session of the Legislature, in the year 1619; Published pursuant to an act of the General Assembly of Virginia..: by William W. Hening, Vol. 1-13, NY, Philadelphia, Richmond, pr. for the editor, 1819-1823. (The laws for Virginia’s colonial period are covered in V. 1-8. Valuable additions to V. 1 include the first constitution of the State of Virginia {pp. 50-56} and a section entitled “Ancient Charters relating to the first settlement of Virginia {pp. 57-118}. V. 1-4 of the set scanned by LLMC were reprinted in 1823 and are considered “Second Edition” owing to the fact that in Hening’s original publication V. 1-4 were published under a subscription scheme limited to 350 copies. However, the only editorial changes between the two editions are a minor factual correction in V. 1 {explained in the Preface at the bottom of V.1, p. xxiii} and the addition of some valuable historical documents at pp. 545-565 of V. 4.)
