October 18, 1778 proclamation issued by Gov. Thomas Chittenden of Vermont, that declared November 26, 1778 as a public day of thanksgiving. A page
from the Manchester Journal, dated November 30, 1922 indicated that this document was the first thanksgiving proclamation in Vermont. (Digitized from
a microfilm copy of title originally held by the New York Historical Society Library).
Title:   By His Excellency Thomas Chittenden, Esq ; ... A proclamation : ... I ... do hereby appoint Thursday the twenty-sixth day of November next, to be observed as a day of public thanksgiving ... Given under my hand in Council, at Windsor, this 18th day of October, in the year of our Lord 1778.
