1812-16, Treadway's Law Reports
Reports of judicial decisions in the Constitutional Court of the State of South Carolina held at Charleston and Columbia, during the years 1812, 13,
14, 15 and 16; To which is added two cases determined in the court of equity in the year eighteen hundred and twenty-two: by W.R.H. Treadway, Vols.
1-2, Charleston, self-published, pr. by John C. Johnson, Albany, N.Y., 1823. (The two equity cases which Brevard elected to include in this work devoted
mainly to law reports appear in an appendix to Vol. 2 as follows: Jenkins et al v. Hogg, pp. 821-851, and Haskell et al v. Raoul, 852-904. Vol. 3 of
Brevard’s Law Reports {see elsewhere on this site}is also devoted to those of Judge Joseph Brevard’s decisions in the Constitutional Court handed down
between December Term, 1811 and April Term 1816. This means that to some degree Brevard’s, Vol. 3 duplicates content in Treadway’s, Vol. 1-2. As
explained in a preface to Brevard’s, Vol. 3: “In this volume, which completes the Reports of Judge Brevard, every {Brevard} case reported by Treadway will
be found, which will, of course, supercede the necessity of republishing the latter, now out of print; but this volume contains many {Brevard} cases
not reported by Treadway. In some few instances, where both have reported the same case, Treadway has been selected; but in the great majority of the
decisions of this character, they have been reported as left by Brevard in his MSS”. For the record, Vol. 3 of Brevard’s holds fewer cases than does
Treadway’s, Vol. 1-2. This is accounted for by the fact that Treadway includes decisions by other judges in addition to Brevard for the 1811-1816
period.)
