Description and Holding Information
1860-61, Convention journal. 1861
Journal of the Convention of the People of South Carolina, held in 1860-1861, together with the reports, resolutions and other materials, which were
found in the appendix. In addition, the Ordinance and Constitution of the State of South Carolina, with the Constitution of the Provisional
Government an of the Confederate States of America were also included in this document. Included in this document was the declaration of secession of South
Carolina (p.325), which presented the historical justification for its decision to secede from the federal union. Also included were correspondence
between the state and the president; the governor and various parties; and a report regarding a meeting with then President Buchanan. Of note, there
were "secret" sessions throughout the various meetings, included in this document. See LLMC #21134-41 for related documents. (Digitized from a
