Pennsylvania Archives, Fourth Series. Edited by George Edward Reed, under the direction of Hon. W. W. Griest, Secretary of the Commonwealth.
Published in twelve volumes by the State of Pennsylvania, and printed by Wm. Stanley Ray, State Printer (Harrisburg 1900-1902). These volumes contain Papers
of the Governors. The Preface in vol. 1 identifies six classes of included papers: Addresses, General Messages, Special Messages, Veto Messages,
Proclamations and Correspondence. Correspondence was included “only in certain cases where it have been of evident historical value, and where it has been
readily accessible.” The set contains volumes 1 (1681-1747), 2 (1747-1759), 3 (1759-1785), 4 (1785-1817), 5 (1817-1832), 6 (1832-1845), 7 (1845-1858),
8 (1858-1871), 9 (1871-1883), 10 (1883-1891), 11 (1891-1897) and 12 (1897-1902). At time of writeup, vol. 12 was not available.
