Senate. Bill to construct a ship canal, 1854
1854 Senate bill for the construction of a ship canal which would connect the Albemarle, Currituck, and Pamlico Sounds with the Chesapeake Bay, thus
connection the sounds to the ocean. The Virginia company, Great Bridge Lumber and Canal Company (or whatever name thereafter determined) would be
incorporated in North Carolina and designated to do the construction. Also included in the bill were procedure for the subscription of stocks and bonds,
