A Digest of all reported cases, both in law and equity, determined in the Courts of North Carolina, from Earliest Period to the Present Year,
together with a Table of the Names of Cases. Prepared by William H. Battle and published in three volumes, the first and second volumes containing the law,
and the third volume the equity cases. Published by Nichols, Gorman & Neathery (Raleigh 1866). Each of first three volumes includes an index (a table
of contents listing digest topics included in that volume). Volume 1 includes Abatement through Guardian and Ward. Volume 2 includes Habeas Corpus
through Wrecks. Volume 3 (equity) includes Abatement through Wills. This set includes Volume 4 (published in 1874), which updates the first three volumes;
the title page states: “In One Volume, to be known as the 4th Volume of Battle’s Digest.” Vols. 2, 3 and 4 include alphabetical tables of cases, with
reporter citations and references to Digest page numbers.
