1734, Costs and profits in the building of 100 sail of vessels
A 1734 New York Province account, made by the governor's order, of the costs and profits in the building and fitting to see of 100 sail of vessels
from 60 to 250 tons, or an average of 140 tons each. The account indicated that sixteen more vessels of about 140 tons were needed yearly, given that
the current supply and that vessels lasted only about eight years and were needed for trade (and prosperity). (Source of the digitized copy: New York
