King George II's Royal Commission to William Cosby, Esq. for the government of the Province of New York on Marcy 27, 1732. In attached certification and document dated September 29, 1736, Rip Van Dam claimed the governorship, following Cosby's death. Of note, there was a dueling assumption of power from George Clarke, who ultimately was successful as the next governor of New York.
