Two copies of an August 2, 1696 Broadside issued by Gov. Benjamin Fletcher of New York and Connecticut. This proclamation advised all military and citizens to prepare for war with the French, by getting their arms prepared, and providing any intelligence to the governor or his council. A proclamation : Whereas I have this day received information from the Right Honourable the Lords of His Majesty's Privy Council, bearing date the 20th day of April last past, that the French are making preparations by shipping, and otherwise, for an attempt on some of His Majesties plantations in America ...
