Description and Holding Information
1843, Smedes & Marshall's Chan. Cases, 1840-43
Reports of cases argued and determined in the Superior Court of Chancery of the State of Mississippi; Vol. 1: by W.C. Smedes and T.A. Marshall,
Reporters to the Court, (8)+18–731p, Boston, Chas. C. Little & James Brown, 1844, all publ. (With the Attorney General's authority to issue a report series
for the Superior Court of Chancery having been withdrawn by the Legislature after the publication of only one volume {see Freeman's Chancery Cases},
Chancellor Buckner apparently tried to inspire an unofficial, commercial-funded series to continue the work. Smedes and Marshall were appointed by the
Chancellor “Reporters of the Court,” and they issued this first volume of a new series, continuing chronologically where Freeman left off. The
venture was apparently not a commercial success, since no other volumes were published.)
