1857, Minnesota Constitutional Convention Debates
Debates and Proceedings of the Minnesota Constitutional Convention including the organic act of the territory … reported by Francis H. Smith,
xix+685p., Saint Paul, Earle S. Goodrich, Territorial Printer, 1857. (The convention convened on July 13, 1857 and adjourned on August 29, 1857. A detailed
index begins on p.iii. The debates of this convention are unusual in the fact that a portion of the delegates refused to co-operate and formed a rival
organization. This resulted in leaving the convention composed entirely of Democratic members and little discussion of contentious topics. The draft
Constitution adopted was the work of a joint committee of the two Conventions and acted upon with little discussion.)(The second copy was part of the
Early State Records collection and digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the Library of Congress).
Title:   The debates and proceedings of the Minnesota Constitutional Convention : including the organic act of the territory, with the enabling act of Congress, the act of the territorial legislature relative to the convention, and the vote of the people on the constitution / reported officially by Francis H.
