Agent for Massachusetts Claim. Massachusetts claim, 1832
|

Senate No. 4 J. Davis, the agent for Massachusetts' claim against the federal government for militia services during the War of 1812, sent his
report dated December 24, 1832. The Secretary of war declined to pursue any more payments to the state because he had no appropriation to pay any more.
Eventually, Mr. Davis was able to get a Congressional resolve to have the department determine the amount owed with a view toward asking Congress for
the money. The Secretary evaded the task for most of the year, but finally started in November. Mr. Davis did not have any idea when he might get
