Davis. Report of J. Davis, agent for prosecution of the claim of Massachusetts, 1831

the date on the report. Davis went through the history of the claim. There were three basic parts examined by the auditors: Guards, Alarms, and
Executive Calls. $430,748.26 was allowed to Massachusetts. Davis went through the difference between the state's reckoning and what the federal government
would allow. The Secretary of War then looked at the claim and Davis vigorously defended the claim directly to the Secretary. The Secretary finally
allowed $419,748.26 and sent the check. Davis sent several several letters trying for the missing $11,000. His report took sixteen pages; the
remaining fifty-nine pages were copies of the voluminous correspondence. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the Massachusetts
