House. Somerset Delegation. Minority report, 1865
SEE ALSO 56492, 56496 Forty-fourth Legislature. House. No. 49. The Somerset delegation had considered a change of shire town and submitted: An
Act to change the place of holding the Supreme Judicial Court in the county of Somerset and to change the shire town of Somerset county, 1865. The
minority group said the act should not pass. The buildings necessary to the court and the county administration were all in place in Norridgewock, but
would have to be built at huge expense in Skowhegan. Some said there were not enough hotel rooms in Norridgewock, but the minority members rebutted
that. Most of the people who testified one way or the other wanted the government to be closer to them as a matter of convenience, which was not much
of a reason to spend that much money. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the Maine Historical Society Library, the Maine
State Library, and the Library of Congress).
