SEE ALSO 56430, 56435 Forty-third Legislature. Senate. No. 29. An Act to provide support for the families of soldiers [As it passed to be
engrossed] 1864. Cities, towns, and plantations could raise money to support wives, infirm parents, and children under fifteen of soldiers or sailors on
active duty or disabled, but the support did not apply to officers' or deserters' families. The recipients had to apply every calendar year for 75c/week
for adults and 50c/week for children, with no more than $2.50/week/family. Support payments for disabled, discharged soldiers' families could only
last one year. Towns could raise more money if they wanted, but would only be reimbursed for properly documented above amounts. (Digitized from a
microfilm copy of title originally held by the Maine State Library and the Library of Congress).
