amended by the Legislature] 1864. Each person enlisted or drafted was entitled to a bounty of $300 from the state treasury, but only if he enlisted after
February 1864. If a person enlisted in the coastal defence and was subsequently sent out of state, he was entitled to a bounty of $200. Soldiers who
re-enlisted received the $300. If the town paid the $300, the state would reimburse the town, but only for $300. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of
