Senate. Comm. on the Judiciary. Resolves providing for an amendment of the constitution to allow soldiers absent from the state to vote … 1864
Forty-third Legislature. Senate. No. 22. The Committee on the Judiciary submitted: Resolves providing for an amendment of the constitution [Maine]
so as to allow soldiers absent from the state to vote for governor, senators, representatives, and county officers. Resolve: a person did not lose
residence by being out of state on military service. A citizen could vote for governor, senators, and representatives on specified dates. Regiments
were to open a polling place wherever there were at least twenty Maine soldiers, followed by several paragraphs of details. They were to notify the
soldiers of the results and send the ballots back to the Secretary of State. There were several single word or phrase changes to the document to
accommodate the amendments. There were directions for state wide voting on the amendments next September. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title
originally held by the Maine State Library and the Library of Congress).
