SEE ALSO 56430, 56443 Forty-third Legislature. Senate. No. 20. An Act to provide support for the families of soldiers [new draft, as amended by
the Senate] 1864. Cities, towns and plantations could tax themselves to provide 75c/week for wives and infirm parents, and 50c/week for children under
fifteen of soldiers in active service or disabled by their service, but not for officers or deserters. The limit was $11.00 per month for the whole
family. Properly documented expenses would be reimbursed by the state within listed time limits. If your town won't help you, write to the Governor.
