Fortieth Legislature. House. No. 48. The Committee on Mercantile Affairs and Insurance presented a bill: An Act in addition and in amendment of an
act entitled an act to incorporate the Maine Mutual Fire Insurance Company approved February 2, 1828, 1861. The company, following a list of terms
and conditions, could insure second class properties. It could also insure first class properties, but each class had its own books and was
responsible for its own losses. When a property was sold, its insurance lapsed, but it could be renewed by the new owners. The two classes were not well
