Fortieth Legislature. House. No. 35. The Committee on the Judiciary offered a bill: An Act to restrict the jurisdiction of Justices of the Peace
to Trial Justices, 1861. The criminal jurisdiction of the Justices of the Peace was removed and lodged with the Trial Justices. A potential amendment
suggested those Justices would handle cases of under $75. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the Maine Historical Society
