Senate. Comm. on Education. Act providing for normal schools, 1860
Thirty-ninth Legislature. Senate. No. 22. The Committee on the Education submitted: An Act providing for normal schools in the several counties,
and repealing the act providing for county conventions of teachers, 1860. Several amounts of money were listed and the times of its distribution to a
long list of academies and seminaries. Each school was obliged to provide a normal school curriculum, and could examine all applicants for their
program. Acceptance preference was spring for females and fall for males. Males had to pay a tuition fee of $1; females' fee was 50c. The
Superintendent of the Common Schools kept track of the normal school students and if an academy failed to produce a good teacher, it lost the money from the state.
