Thirty-sixth Legislature. House. No. 40. An Act additional concerning the Supreme Judicial Court and judicial proceedings, 1857. The Governor was to designate four of the eight Justices to hear civil cases, but especially capital cases; three of the four was a quorum. The group was to hold court in each of three districts on designated days. If a party to a suit failed to file in a timely manner, the other party could ask for a judgment in his favor. If a judge found a demurrer frivolous, he could require triple costs. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the Library of Congress).
