Description and Holding Information
1860-03-17, Message vetoing "An Act to incorporate the Somerset Railroad Company"
SEE ALSO 56174, 56166 Thirty-ninth Legislature. House. No. 34. On March 17, 1860, the Governor sent a veto message for An Act to incorporate the
Somerset Railroad Company. He thought the company's charter was overbroad, allowing it to do things that were really the prerogative of the state, not
a company. In fact, the railroad was allowed to do things that were specifically disallowed in the recent law about the safety and convenience of
travelers on railroads, so there was a conflict of laws. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the Library of Congress).
