Description and Holding Information
1840, Reply of the Board of Dirs. of the Union Bank of Fla. to the House of Reps.
This document was a response by the Board of Directors of the Union Bank of Florida to reports from the Bank and Judiciary Committee of the House of
Representatives of the Legislative Council of Florida, dated 1840. The response which consisted of 98 pages appeared to have a serious disagreement
with a very critical report that the Union Bank had insecure capital; that various parts of the charter of the bank were violated; and that the bank
directors were irresponsible, exercised favoritism, and acted with partiality to some stockholders. These criticisms were an example of the Committee's
concerns. The directors countered with extensive information and defenses in an attempt to demonstrate that the Bank was appropriately managed by
the board. The board also added some additional comments on the final two pages of this document which appeared to address a Bank Committee report that
was seen after the rest of the document went to the printer. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the University of Florida)
