inclusive: by Ogden Hoffman, vii+458+146p, San Francisco, Numa Hubert, 1862. (After California was granted statehood, Congress was faced with a complex
of problems stemming from land grants dating deep back into the Spanish and Mexican eras. A Board of Commissioners was appointed to adjudicate these
claims, with appeal permitted to a U.S. District Judge appoint-ed for the purpose. A table of cases starts on p. v, and a list of the governors of
California, together with a brief sketch of its early history, on p. 453. The second sequence of Arabic numbers contains an appendix with a table of land
claims starting on p. 1; a description of the “Jimeno Index, on p. 109; an index to ranchos on p. 113; an index to claimants on p. 126; and a general
