1984. (This study is the first phase of an evaluation of the aftercare program for drug-dependent federal offenders, a program established by Congress in
1966 and initially placed under the auspices of the Federal Bureau of Prisons. In 1978 responsibility for the program’s operation was transferred to
the Probation Division of the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts. The study described herein was undertaken in 1981 under contract to the FJC by
Macro Systems, Inc., which presented its report in April 1982. This text incorporates much of the substance and many of the findings of that report.)
