1777-08-14, Observations on slaves and indentured servants inlisted in the U.S. Army & Navy
August 14, 1777 broadside from "Antibiastes" in Philadelphia, regarding his observations on slaves and indentured servants serving in the Army and
Navy. The author was extremely critical of the use of these men as soldier, as they were not given the bounties nor freedom promised to the other
soldiers. He encouraged amnesty for soldiers in certain instances (such as desertion), as well as emancipating the slaves/servants who served in the
military. See LLMC #39245 for a variant copy which did not contain a quote by Horace or a colophon. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally
held by the New York Historical Society Library (c.1) and the American Philosophical Society Library (c.2)).
