Samana et ses projets de cession, 1844-1891: by A. de St-Mérant, 142p, ill., Paris, Marchal et Billard, 1896. (Haiti: Dominican Republic/Haiti, foreign relations. Samana is a mountainous province in the Northeastern corner of the Dominican Republic {D.R.}, close to Haiti, consisting mostly of the Samana Peninsula, which encloses Samana Bay. Haiti also had tenuous claims to sovereignty over the province. Mainly during the three presidencies of Pedro Santana {hero of the liberation of the D.R. from Haiti in 1844; and 1st, 4th & 8th president of the D.R. during 1844-48, 1849-56 & 1858-61}, the D.R. played with selling the Samana Province to the United States as a naval station. However the project was never finalized due to the excessively high price demanded by the D.R. All of the text is in French.)
