Congress to the inhabitants of the United States (Boston), 1778-05-09
May 9, 1778 Address by Congress to the inhabitants of the United States, and May 23, 1778 resolution by the Massachusetts Council-Chamber to
distribute same. The address, while acknowledging the three years of war thus far, also noted that Britain caused the war, not the colonies. Warning the
inhabitants of the United States not to be lulled into accepting Britain's overtures for peace, the address warned of dependency or even defeat from
fresh British troops. This address was to keep the United States focused and willing to pursue victory. See LLMC #20990 for related document.
