The citadel of freedom: a brief study of the Constitution and its builders, and of the movement to destroy it: by Randolph Leigh, xi + 234 p., New York, G.P. Putnam, 1924. ( The author contends that the Constitution provides for a four-phase government based on equilibrium between the people and the three branches of government. He asserts that the Civil War and the emergence of the "Solid South" resulted in a political stalemate. The first eleven chapters describe the Constitution as a bold experiment. The last four chapters trace the nullification of the representative principle by nearly half of the states. The table of contents is located on p.xi.)
