Choate- Commemorative Exercises, Portrait Unveiling, 1922

Commemorative Exercises at the hanging of a portrait of the Honorable Joseph Hodges Choate (1832- 1917) in the Banking Rooms of the Merchants National Bank in Salem, Massachusetts on June 28, 1922. Of note, he was Ambassador of the United States to Great Britain from 1899 to 1905, and was one of the representatives of the United States at the second Peace Congress at the Hague in 1907. In 1919, the Harvard Club of New York City established the Joseph Hodges Choate Memorial Fellowship at Harvard University and awarded it each year to a student from the University of Cambridge on the recommendation of the Cambridge Vice-Chancellor for study in any Department of Harvard University.
