Commissioners to Settle with the Sureties of B.D. Peck. Report, 1860
|
|
Report of the Committee appointed to settle with sureties of Benjamin D. Peck, late Treasurer of Maine, 1860. Initially, the surety for 1858 owed $14,356 and for 1859, $62,563. However, there were second thoughts about who owed what if the amounts were based on the effective dates of the bonds. The surety for 1859 was charged $37,585, which he bargained to $7,000 cash and three annual notes of $10,000 each. The 1858 surety was charges $35,192, but that person had not answered the summons. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the Library of Congress).
