SEE ALSO 53611 House No. 80 On March 10, 1841, the Justices responded to several questions posed to them on March 6, 1841 about residency
privileges for those who lived on federal land such as naval bases. The Justices said, in a general way, the United States controlled any land acquired from
the states, so most local privileges did not apply, except that service of process was recognized. If there were children on the base, they were not
entitled to go to local schools. Base residents were exempt from local poll and other taxes, could not achieve resident status, and could not vote
