1840-02-17, Opinion on adjournment of the House for choice of Representatives to a day beyond the fourth Monday in November
House No. 32 On February 17, 1840, the Justices of the Supreme Judicial Court sent an opinion to the House in response to a question: The day for
meeting in various jurisdictions around the state to elect Representatives was set for the fourth Monday in November. Could such a meeting be
adjourned to a day other than the fourth Monday? The Justices said no; the language of the statute made no provision for that. (Digitized from a microfilm
copy of title originally held by the Massachusetts State Library).
