Description and Holding Information
1833, Returns of the Registers of Probate, 1828-30
House No. 3 Returns of the Registers of Probate ; in pursuance of requisitions made by the House of Representatives on March 5 & 10, 1831 containing
statements of the business transacted and expenses incurred in their several offices during the years 1828, 1829, 1830. Published by order of the
House of Representatives January 9, 1833. Boston : Dutton & Wentworth, 1833. The order of the House was reprinted first: the list of desired
information was long and detailed; the data would have been burdensome to collect. The first table was a compiled list of responses to some of the requirements
arranged by county. That was followed by responses from individual Registers for their county. The more populous counties had lots of data, but
less populous counties did not and were not shy about complaining about things in their shop or having to spend time gathering statistics. (Digitized
from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the Massachusetts State Library).
