SEE ALSO 56394 Forty-third Legislature. Senate. No. 1. On March 16, 1864, the European and North American Railroad listed its plans and active projects and sent a copy of the memo it had sent to Congress. The document, dated March 8, 1864, explained the effort to build a railroad from Halifax to New York City. Maine was due a sum of money from the federal government for timber cut long ago and all parties wanted to use that money to build the unfinished miles of railroad. The company requested a timely appropriation.
