House. Somerset Delegation. Majority report, 1865
SEE ALSO 56492, 56493 Forty-fourth Legislature. House. No. 53. Majority report of the Delegation of Somerset County on the change of shire town
of that county, February 18, 1865. The seven man majority believed the change was necessary. The report included a history of the county and its
towns and pointed out that Norridgewock was important once, but it had declined. Skowhegan was now the business center of the county; the railroad and
telegraph all converged there. The men gave a "Chamber of Commerce" argument in favor of Skowhegan and addressed the financial implications. Digitized
from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the Maine Historical Society Library, the Maine State Library, and the Library of Congress).
