Cemetery. The Commissioner for Maine for the cemetery had asked for an additional appropriation for the monument at the cemetery. Mr. Norris appeared
before the Committee to give a history of the cemetery and the role of Maine's troops in the battle. He explained where Maine's portion of the grounds was
located; there were quite a few unknown soldiers from Maine. The Legislature had originally appropriated $2,500 for the work, but time and inflation
meant higher costs, so the Committee asked for $1,800 to finish the monument. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the
