and deaths, February 17, 1865. Four men dissented from the majority and thought the bill ought to pass. An Act to amend chapter two hundred
forty-four of the public law of 1864 relating to the registration of births, marriages, and deaths, 1865. Every jurisdiction had to keep a book for this
purpose and send the data to the Secretary of State on March 31 every year. All marriage celebrants had to notify the county clerk of marriages
performed. As assessors did their inventory, they were to ask about births and deaths and report them. There were fines for failure to comply. (Digitized
