Forty-fourth Legislature. House. No. 42. The Committee on the State Prison submitted: An Act additional to chapter one hundred forty of the
Revised Statutes, relating to the State Prison, 1865. Anyone who aided an escaped convict in any way was liable to a prison sentence as least as long as
the escapee's or a fine of up to $500. If a prisoner assaulted a prison employee, he faced additional time. The prison inspectors could change the
