House. Comm. on Education. Act amendatory of Chapter 11 … relating to education, 1865
Forty-fourth Legislature. House. No. 38. The Committee on Education submitted: An Act amendatory of chapter eleven of the Revised Statutes,
relating to education, 1865. Every town had to tax itself, regardless of any other income, at least 75c per person to support the schools. If a town
failed, it received no state school money. In April, the school agent had to send the Superintendent the census of ages 4-21 persons in his district and
the school committee had to send the number of actual students in May. Graded schools could raise outside funds if they wanted. (Digitized from a
microfilm copy of title originally held by the Maine Historical Society Library, the Maine State Library, and the Library of Congress).
