Forty-third Legislature. House. No. 15. An Act to define the extent and duration of the Lord's Day; and to amend chapter eighty-one and chapter
one-hundred-twenty-four of the Revised Statutes, relating to the observance of the Sabbath, 1864. The day was from twelve o'clock Saturday night to
twelve o'clock Sunday night. No civil process was valid. No business, broadly defined, could be open during that time or the owner could be fined. Any
person who sponsored or attended an entertainment or sporting event could be fined. No locals could hang out at an inn or the innkeeper could be
fined. "Tythingmen or any other person" had standing to prosecute all offenses. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the Maine
