Fortieth Legislature. House. No. 43. An Act additional to chapter sixty-one of the Revised Statutes, relating to the rights of married women, 1861.
A married women could manage her own property, run businesses, etc. and be liable for her actions without her husband having any liability. An
amendment added that a married woman could not be arrested on mesne process or be liable to execution in a civil suit.
