Joint Select Comm. on Aid to the Aroostook Railroad Company. Act to aid the Aroostook Railroad Company … 1861
SEE ALSO 56213, 56214, 56249, 56255 Fortieth Legislature. House. No. 18. The Joint Select Committee on Aid to the Aroostook Railroad Company
offered a bill: An Act to aid the Aroostook Railroad Company and promote the settlement of public lands, 1861. All the public lands, with one exception,
would be managed by the governor, the Treasurer, and the land agent as a board. (The land agent would do the work.) Monies received from the land
sales would go into a fund at Treasury, as would any monies received from Maine's claim on the United States. The railroad had four years to complete a
viable railroad from Oldtown to Mattawamkeag and then they could use the money to extend the tracks to the eastern boundary of the state. If it could
not meet the four year timeline, no money was allowed. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the Maine Historical Society
Library, the Maine State Library, and the Library of Congress).
